Message from Mr. Bertolo

I wanted to clarify some information about absences. This is directly from the district about attendance. Please read:

• If a student is out due to the strike it is a “U”. If a student is out and the parents don’t contact you it is an “A-meaning we don’t know why the student is absent.” Both of these are truant events. As of now, A2A (The district’s automated attendance system) will send truancy letters to all of those students who have been out all of the strike dates. These will be mailed out on March 11.
• Sites do not need to conduct SART (Student Attendance Resource Team) meetings for all these students, unless they were already slated to have a SART meeting (up to school discretion). The school sites can make the decision on whether or not they hold a SART meeting. I would suggest not having one for those that have only had an attendance issue during the strike.
• Students will be marked absent if they are supporting teachers during the strike.

The above information is true as of today. However, there may be some things that change later regarding truancy letters, but that depends on district confirmations. Please be on the lookout for information from me.

From Sequoia’s side, if you do receive a truancy letter due to absences from the strike, there will be no SART as a result. We support your decision to support the teachers.
