MLK Oratorical Assembly Jan. 23

MLK Oratorical Assembly Jan. 23

SCHEDULE CHANGE: The evening performance will be held Tuesday,
Jan. 22, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the night before the daytime assembly on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Forty years ago the MLK Oratorical was founded as a way to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. by showcasing students’ public speaking skills. Teachers and students are already working on selecting their pieces for the competition.

We have an all-star group of parent and grandparent volunteer coaches who will dedicate much time, expertise and heart in supporting the large number of participating students over the coming weeks. It isn’t too late to jump on the coaching bandwagon, so if you are feeling even a little curious, please reach out. Thank you coaches and students in advance for your courage and hard work!

We are looking for judges for the competition. If you have suggestions or personal connections to someone you think would be great, please let us know. People who are from our community and invested in Sequoia are ideal, such as educators, activists, artists, elected officials, local business owners and former Sequoia families. Judges need to have roughly two hours of daytime availability and be able to judge the students fairly according to festival guidelines.

To volunteer or suggest judges, please email Lara Clayman at laraclayman@gmail.com or John Colleton at johnniecol@gmail.com.
