Principal’s Corner

Principal’s Corner

There are some exciting things happening at Sequoia!

We have teamed up with Oakland Promise (www.oaklandpromise.org) and are becoming a part of K2C (Kindergarten to College).

What is K2C? K2C is part of the Oakland Promise and is working to ensure that every Oakland child will graduate from high school with the expectation, skills and resources to complete college and be successful in the career of their choice. Oakland Promise includes four programs: Brilliant Baby, K2C, Future Centers, and College Scholarships and Completion.

We have more than 50 OUSD elementary schools participating in K2C this year. There are three main components to our program:
Provide early scholarships of $100 (for Kindergartners every year, currently for K–2).
Implement a college-going culture at school (for TK–5).
Support families with technical assistance to open their own 529 College Savings Accounts (CSAs), offering up to $100 in incentives as families open accounts and save consistently for 6 months.

Sequoia’s K2C Point Person is Veena Pathiparampil (veena@oaklandpromise.org). She helps with all K2C programming for Sequoia, including helping families open CSAs.
