Current Volunteer Opportunities

We do our best to keep track of all current volunteer opportunities and contact information for activities, programs and events at Sequoia. If you have a volunteer opportunity to add to this list or are interested in volunteering, please contact Marie Jones, the community engagement and volunteer coordinator for Sequoia, at

Here are a few volunteer opportunities coming up. If you are interested in helping with any of these please feel free to ask for contact information for the event leads by sending an email to

Retail Partners Coordinator

We have a great opportunity for a Sequoia volunteer who likes to use email and social media. Please contact us if you want to help us increase our fundraising revenue from retail partnerships. This means promoting the use of shopping links like so Sequoia receives a referral fee. This is a job you can do from home at any time that is convenient to you. We have potential to earn several thousand dollars per year from these programs. For example, when a shopper starts their Amazon purchase with the link on the website, FOSS receives 6-8% of the sale! Please contact Stacie Chun at if you are interested in this volunteer role. Thank you!

Lunchtime Support

The cafeteria staff need your support in creating and maintaining a calm environment in the cafeteria during lunchtime. Changes are in place to have a less disruptive atmosphere for our squirrels to eat their lunch, but we need volunteers to help model and encourage appropriate lunchtime behaviors that coincide with our four core values. The lunch times are listed below. Please consider coming for one or all (the most help is needed during the upper grade lunch period):

TK: 11:15 -11:45 a.m.
K & 1st: 11:40 a.m. – 12:10 p.m.
2nd & 3rd: 12:05 – 12:35 p.m.
4th & 5th: 12:30 – 1:00 p.m.

If you are interested in lending your help during lunch, please contact Coach D at

Arabic Translator

Communications Team is looking for a parent volunteer to assist with Arabic translations for the newsletter. Each week the newsletter features at least one article translated into several languages, thanks to the efforts of parent translators. If you are able to assist with Arabic translations, please contact Andrew Gordon at

Recess Support

We’re looking for volunteers to help monitor the playground during morning and lunchtime recess. If you’re interested, please send an email to

Traffic Safety Coordinator

We are looking for a volunteer to support and assist with the Sequoia Traffic Safety Patrol Program. Fourth and fifth grade students are already running a drop-off patrol on Hearst Avenue, led by Sequoia parent, Monique McGough. We are hoping to expand this program to Scenic Avenue as well.

If you have a little time to give in the mornings, please consider this very valuable service for Sequoia. The time commitment would be approximately 30-40 minutes daily in the mornings (8:00–8:40 a.m.). You would be guiding and supporting the students on that side of the building. The coordinator position can be shared by two people and can also be another family or community member. Training will be provided, and there is a $500 stipend. Please contact Mr. Bertolo at if you’re interested.

Motor Skill Helpers

Motor Skills is starting for our TK and Kindergarten students on Wednesdays after Sequoia Sings. Parents, please consider coming to volunteer for this class — it helps the students have an enriching experience, and it’s also a lot of fun! Check out the times for the classes:

To volunteer, contact April Schlenk, Motor Skills Teacher at or just show up on Wednesdays in the auditorium.

Reading Helpers

Sequoia is looking for parent volunteers to help students practice their reading skills! This opportunity will be during the school day on the Sequoia campus, throughout the school year. If you have some free time during the week and are interested please, email

Silent Auction and Family Dance

We need a team of parent volunteers to assist with the Family Dance & Silent Auction (to be held February 11, 2017), which has traditionally been one of Sequoia’s biggest fundraisers. Last year’s leads are lined up to help transition the event and provide support, but we need loads of help to keep this fun and lucrative event on the calendar!

We need people to help secure donations for the auction (a process that should begin before Thanksgiving Break), graphic design/marketing specialists, folks who can volunteer on the event-planning side, and anyone willing to lend a hand in any capacity. Please contact if you can help in any way, large or small.
