Sequoia students enjoy direct hands-on learning of biology and ecology in our outdoor garden classroom (on the corner of Hearst and Lincoln). Garden instruction is integrated with science, reading, writing and art, and with our goal to make Sequoia greener.

In the garden, Sequoia students:

  • Build soil through composting
  • Plant, tend to and harvest fruits and vegetables
  • Study water and root systems
  • Develop an overall connection to the processes that support life with a greater awareness of food and nutrition

The Sequoia garden features an integrated water catchment system, fruit-bearing trees and vines, an edible herb garden, a native plant habitat, and fruit and vegetable harvests throughout the year, allowing students to taste the fruits of their labors and grow to love the food that comes from the earth.
